Kelly Jamieson says:  As a child, my mother used to bug me to go outside and play with the other kids, but all I wanted to do was sit in my bedroom and work on my novel. I wish some of those early works had survived, I’m sure they'd be good for a laugh!

Of course along with being a writer, I’m an avid reader. I don't just love to read, I have to read. I’ll read anything, even the cereal box at the breakfast table. My childhood love of reading started with the Bobbsey Twins (I’m sure I’m dating myself here). I devoured those books so fast my mother used to buy them three or four at a time and hide them, to pace me. Later, I loved Anne of Green Gables and all the other Lucy Montgomery books that followed. Those were probably my first romances Anne and Gilbert falling in love and getting married. 

In school my favorite subjects were English (of course) and French. I was embarrassingly math challenged (still am!) So I chose to major in English at university. My French prof convinced me to do a double major in English and French. What to do with a BA in English and French? Not the most practical degree career-wise. Then I discovered translation. Because you always translate into your mother tongue, you have to be a good writer in that language, so the text flows naturally and doesn't sound translated. I went away to university and started working on a second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Languages. However,I hated the city I lived in, hated being so far from home and not knowing a soul, and I was getting tired of being a poor student. So I didn't finish that degree and the translation career never happened. Oh well. Life takes different turns and twists than we plan sometimes but it's what you do with it that counts. I have been so lucky to have a day job that challenges me, a wonderful husband and two beautiful, smart, healthy children, a lovely home, and now being able to share my writing.

If I can stop myself from reading or writing, I love to cook. I have shelves of cookbooks which I love to read. I also enjoy gardening. In the winter I like to read gardening magazines and seed catalogues (sensing a theme here...) I also love shopping, especially for clothes and shoes. Of course my family takes precedence over everything else (yes, even writing).I have two teenage children who are the best kids in the world (not biased or anything), my sucky lap dog Abby and a wonderful husband.

About Cynthia Vespia: Cynthia was drawn to writing at a young age. After high school she established a successful career as a freelance journalist writing everything from features and fillers, to reviews and human interest stories.
